WEEK 1

Thu Jan 01, 2004

It’s a typical New Year’s day... I woke up at approximately twelve o’clock this afternoon and had breakfast. It’s my birthday today, so instead of oatmeal and eggs I went for waffles with pecans and blueberries and whipped cream. As usual, this was supposed to be my last cheat meal of the year and this year I’ve decided I’m old enough to actually stick with the plan. Luckily one of my gyms was open, so I went and had an amazing back work-out. My second meal consisted of a post-workout shake, and an hour or so later I had some salmon. I was doing extremely good until about 4:00 p.m. when one of my friends showed up at my house carrying a birthday cake in her hand... A birthday cake is not something a New Year’s baby gets treated to often... Today is my 29th birthday and only the third time ever I got a birthday cake... so naturally I couldn’t possibly pass on such a rare treat. After polishing off the entire cake (with the help of my boyfriend and my friend) I agreed to a couple of chocolate martinis... At the moment I feel more like it’s my BARF-day instead of my birth-day, but hey this day only comes once a year and I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that an occasional chocolate indulgence can be healthy for me, so even though I slipped a bit with the cake at least I managed to get back on track and stick with the healthy stuff throughout the rest of the evening... All in all I feel I’ve done pretty good for my first day of training towards FAME...

I took some “before” pictures of my post-holiday post-cake post-martinis worst-shape of the year physique for everyone’s critiquing pleasures.

I look a bit fluffy at the moment due to all the Christmas cookies still sitting on my butt, but thanks to all the pressure I am bestowing upon myself by being on this forum, these cookies will most definitely be eaten up by FAME.... I am having great difficulty posting all of the pictures up today because my server is really slow, so I will add more over the next few days... I just have no patience tonight, besides IT’S MY BIRTHDAY and I have other things on my agenda :):)

So this is where my journal begins! I will be visiting this forum regularly over the next five months and keep you posted on my progress towards FAME. I welcome everyone’s suggestions and constructive criticism on everything I will be sharing with you! Thanks for checking me out! M

It’s Sunday morning and I’m just getting ready to hit the gym… It’s leg day… Legs used to be my favorite training body part but lately I’ve been dreading them more so then ever. I suppose it might have something to do with the fact that I’m lifting much heavier than ever. I’ve always had great difficulty bringing definition to my legs. The size was always there, but the cuts would only come out days before the contest. So I’ve re-examined my routine and determined I need to lift heavier. December was a really rough month for me because I’ve been suffering from the flu on and off throughout the entire month, but on the days I felt good I still trained legs with all of my might. With the Christmas goodies still clinging to my entire body it’s hard to tell if I’ve made any gains in the “cuts” department but I expect to see some sort of results by the end of the month…

For consistency reasons I’m also lifting heavy with all other body parts… Yesterday I trained Chest and Triceps. I did chest first and then proceeded to tris. For some reason I felt no pump in my tris though. This is very strange for me because that’s one muscle group I ALWAYS feel when I train, even when I train them with a major muscle group like back or chest, so I can’t quite explain why I felt no pump.. Anyway, here is what I did yesterday:

Chest:
Bench Press 20/8 x 4
Incline Dumbell Press 30/8 x 3
Decline Dumbell Flys 20/8 x 3
Peck Dek 75/6 x 4
Cable Crossovers 30/8 x 4

Tris:
Overhead Dumbell X – 25/8 x 4
Triceps Pressdowns 70/8 x 4
Close grip Bench Press 50/8 x 3
Tricept Kickbacks 10/10 x 3
Cable Pressdowns 25/12 x 4

My diet yesterday was as follows:

10:30 (I got up at 10:30 following a wildly late Friday night on the town)
-3 waffles with peacans, sugarless syrup, and FF whipped cream (just to clarify, the waffle batter was left over from my birthday and I HATE wasting food so I finished it yesterday)
-protein shake in water

worked out between 12:00 and 1:30

1:30 – post workout shake (30 g protein, 30 g dextrose, 5 g L-Glutamine)

2:30 – whole wheat turkey wrap (no mayo or any other kind of dressing)

5:30 – ½ cup cottage cheese 1% MF; a few peacans

6:00 – 6 oz steak with 1 cup mixed green veggies and ¾ cup rice; 5 oz red wine

7:30 – a bag of popcorn at the movies (saw Cold Mountain – Excellent but very sad movie about the Civil War, so don’t go unless you like sad endings)

… I’m off to have some rice and egg whites now as my pre-leg workout meal….
